My hair has needed some extra help lately. It’s in desperate need of a cut, a colour, and some damage control to the damaged, straw-like ends. So after a hair convo with a co-worker of mine a few months ago, she was sweet enough to give me a few of the India Hair-Yurvedics products from I.C.O.N. Truthfully I’ve never heard of the brand before, and therefore have never used any of their products, so I was pretty excited to give these a go and help out my poor hair.

So let me describe the products:

– I.C.O.N India Shampoo: The shampoo is extremely nourishing, and a little bit goes a long way. The shampoo does not lather, which in my opinion is a little off-putting. But my hair does feel awesome at the end.

– I.C.O.N India Conditioner: Same as the shampoo, this is a little-goes-a-long-way, nourishing, soft-hair, conditioner.

– I.C.O.N India Curl Cream: This curl cream is a wave and curl enhancer. It is meant to increase strength and define curls with Moringa and Argan. Quinoa is meant to prevent further damage, and Sunflower Seed Extract is meant to protect. Along with Vitamin B for shine and moisture, this product is meant to be applied to damp hair prior to styling. I find that the product curls my hair well through the bottom half of my hair, but from my scalp to my ears my hair doesn’t curl as well as it naturally should and becomes quite frizzy. I find that I have to add some of my Deva Curl Set it Free Moisture Lock to my hair in order to counter-act some of the frizz. After using this product for a few months I believe that I prefer my Catwalk curl cream products, but this is a possible runner up.

– I.C.O.N India Healing Spray: This leave-in remedy is great to apply to your hair at the end of the styling process. The bottle specifically says to comb the spray through your damp hair, but since combing would ruin my curls I like to spray the product at the bottom of my curls where my hair is the most damaged. I find that it softens the straw-like feeling and adds some more moisture to my hair throughout the day. It’s great to spray on your hair later in the day as well when you’re in need of a bit of a moisture boost.

Overall I was not extremely impressed with the products, realizing that I prefer some of the other products that I have used in the past. I must admit that I like the fact that all India Hair-Yurvedics products are anti-agers, antioxidants, paraben-free, vegan, and have A.C.E Vitamins.  I do also enjoy the healing benefits of the shampoo and conditioner, but overall the SMELL of the products has been enough to turn me off all India Hair-Yurvedics products. At first I thought that the smell would only be upon application, but when I use these products it is all I smell throughout the day, overpowering even strong perfumes. The box for the India Curl Cream says “The Miracle of Moringa, The Essence of Argan, and the Scent of Amber.” What the heck is the scent of Amber?! To me it kinda smells like a mix of Cinnamon and Vanilla and I do not enjoy to one bit. If the products were absolutely amazing I think I’d get over the smell. But since the products don’t amaze me, the smell is off-putting. These bottles might last me quite a while. Not sure how often I can handle the smell.
