Dry, quirky humour. Yeah, I’d say I like that kinda stuff. So when it comes to my down time and bed time stories lately I’ve really been sinking my teeth into some of the greats. So here is another view into my recent reading choices and some of the series I’ve been loving and binge watching on Netflix.
Let’s start with the books. I’ve been reading a ton of books since my last edition of “Recent Reads and Netflix Needs“, which was shockingly about six months ago, but they’ve really been fluffy nothing reads….and all 7 Harry Potter novels…..again. So it’s time to get into some of the good stuff again, and this is just the beginning. Over the Christmas season I started to read Mindy Kaling’s new book “Why Not Me?”. I’d previously read her first book and absolutely loved it, finding it quirky, insightful and just down-right hilarious. I was so excited to sink my teeth into this one. Yet although it still had it’s quirkiness and hilarity, I do believe I expected more from Ms. Kaling. Don’t get me wrong, I still loved the book. But maybe through me re-watches of The Mindy Project and my newfound love of The Office (see below), I just played it up in my head too much. I’ll still recommend it to my friends though, don’t worry.
Second on the book list was Rick Yancey’s “The 5th Wave”. Not really something I’d usually go for, but a friend of mine gave me this book for Christmas. Seeing as the movie was coming out just a few short weeks after the holidays I decided to give it a go. And I couldn’t put it down! It was the typical teen-novel hook book. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but read the book first, please!
Now turning to Netflix it’s kinda been a whirlwind few months. Starting series and getting bored, re-watching old shows that I love and, of course, Making a Murderer (don’t get me started…) But when it comes to the other hooked shows that really make me laugh and binge watching I’ve got two. The Office has always been Corey’s favourite show and he’s attempted to get me into it countless times. I’m not sure what was different about this time but I’m absolutely hooked and I LOVE IT (although Michael Scott makes me so uncomfortable I often have to cover my eyes). And last but not least, the very funny Aziz Ansari in Master of None. Another super cute and quirky show. I actually described him as the male Mindy Kaling yesterday, anyone agree?
What have you been loving in the reading or watching department lately?
