Review – Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette

Sometimes I just like to keep quiet on the big releases until (a) I can really test it out before jumping to conclusions and (b) I’m not one of five reviews of the same product that you can choose from in your daily updates. For these reasons I’m okay with being a little late to the game with the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette.

As much as I absolutely adore this palette, it’s not one that I would have chosen for myself. I received this new and hot palette as a Christmas gift and as excited as I was it sat unused for quite some time. With 10 neutral shades that seem to blur together, two “out-there” shades that would be used only for quite specific needs, and three dark smokey shades I find the palette isn’t very utilitarian for the everyday shadow wearer. I could probably cut this 15 shade palette down to 6 shades and be just as happy, if not happier.

But I have found a combination of three of these amazing quality shades that I’ve come to really enjoy. With danger all over my lid and harajuku blended in the crease I then smoke it all out with blackout from the outer corner in. My trick to make a well shaped smokey eye is a strip of tape between the outer corner of my eye and my eyebrow, then follow that same line with liquid liner! The perfect sharp edge!

I’m still not ecstatic about this palette; like I said I could cut it down by about 9 or 10 shades. It’s not travel friendly, nor do the colours differ enough to merit being in the same compact palette together. But it certainly is fun to play around with these great quality eyeshadows and create something fun! Gwen Stefani certainly has style and grace and Urban Decay has the quality so it’s a great collection.
