Time for something a little new. I’ve been so incredibly caught up with life lately that my blog has suffered. A few posts here and there…but I do apologize for the silence my dear friends. And now that I’m sitting here and giving myself some time to write and reflect I realize there just isn’t a whole hell of a lot to talk about friends. There have been no new makeup purchases, no new books read, no new Netflix series binge-watched, and no recent life adventures. But what there has been over the past month is a lot of new music to bop my head along with, so time to at another one to my “Top 5” series – My monthly Top 5 songs.
The city of Toronto is home to many amazing radio stations. There isn’t enough favourite buttons on my car radio console to save them all and I annoyingly have to turn the FM dial to tune in to some of my favourites. I’m a big fan of 102.1 The Edge which I’ve been listening to for about 8 years now, especially the Sunday night “Ongoing History of New Music” show with Alan Cross. And about two and half years ago another Toronto icon joined the air in the form of Indie88 which has quickly turned Toronto into the hub of rising artists and indie rock – I’m proud of the musical roots and music culture that has grown out of Toronto over the past decade and the arrival of Indie88 within the last three years exploded the scene and has really allowed it to blossom.
Now as much as certain radio hosts annoy the crap out of me and radio stations seem to overplay songs to the point that I can’t handle them anymore, I’ve certainly expanded my music taste and have grown to truly love music. These are my favourite tracks of the past month:
- Ophelia – The Lumineers
- Woman Woman – Awolnation
- Ride – TwentyOne Pilots
- Amerika – Wintersleep
- Not My Girl – Tokyo Police Club
And the entire Lumineers album “Cleopatra” deserves it’s own spot. I’ll gladly name it album of the year so far. Amazing from start to finish!
What kind of music do you like? I love discovering new music!
