It’s bad enough we have to deal with body hair all over our body. After all, shaving can take forever to ensure we have shiny hair-free pins in the morning. But for 15% of women, they are facing the issue of facial hair in their life. It can cause women to lose confidence and start to hate their appearance. A lot of women don’t even know why they are suffering from facial hair in the first place. And they don’t know how to get rid of it! Therefore, here are some of the top reasons why women get facial hair and ways you can get rid of it!

Hormone imbalance

It’s easy to feel like our hormones are all over the place. And for some women it’s true. Although women produce testosterone, some have a higher than normal level which produces facial hair. It can even cause issues with your sex drive and your menstrual cycle. Other ladies may not have an increased level of male hormones, but they have increased sensitivity to them. It means they have a significant effect on the body and will cause excess facial hair growth. If your hormones are imbalanced, the doctor will attempt to put you on the contraceptive pill to try and balance them out. In the meantime, you should try bleaching your facial hair so that it’s less obvious.

Being overweight

Your weight could also be the reason for your facial hair. If you are overweight or obese, you are more likely to notice facial hair appearing. For one thing, being overweight causes insulin resistance. It means you may have a raised insulin level which can trigger your ovaries to produce more male hormone testosterone. It then leads to excess hair. The best thing to do in these circumstances is to lose weight; eat healthier to help rid those pounds. You will also need to limit your intake of sugary and refined carbohydrates which can cause facial hair. In the meantime, you could get some form of product such as vaniqa cream online, which can treat female facial hair.

PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)

1 in 10 women have PCOS but don’t even know they are suffering from the condition. It causes cysts to grow around the edge of the ovaries. As well as causing dreaded facial hair, women also have irregular periods, bad acne, and weight gain. Although there is no way to get rid of it, you can control it by making a few lifestyle changes. For one thing, losing weight can help control the condition. Other people go on birth control which can help to regulate their periods. If you think you have this condition, talk to the doctor about more ways to help you manage the syndrome.

Certain medicines

You might not know that the medication you are taking could be causing that moustache to grow! In some cases, your body can react to the medication and cause excessive hair growth on your face. Some of the ones you need to watch out for include steroids, testosterone, and cyclosporine. If you have facial hair growth, you should talk to the doctor about coming off the medication. And then you could look into treatment such as laser hair removal to get rid of that pesky facial hair!

Birth Control

Our body can react strangely to particular types of birth control. In fact, you will be surprised how many times girls have to swap to find the right one for their body. Although it can be used to control your hormones to stop issues such as facial hair, you might grow it because of the contraceptive pill! Therefore, you may need to change to a different one to stop you from getting this issue. Talk to the doctor if you have any issues so it can be resolved quickly.

Pregnancy

Of course, this only affects women that are carrying a baby. But if you are expecting in the not-so-distant future, there is a good chance that you might start noticing facial hair appearing. In fact, singer Adele openly admitted that she started growing facial hair when she was expecting her son. During your pregnancy, it’s best to stick to waxing or pluck the hair to remove it. Avoid treatments which could potentially harm your baby. The good news is the hair tends to go after pregnancy. But if you do still find it is there after your newborn has arrived, you could look into a more permanent solution such as laser hair removal.

And for some unfortunate girls, it can just be down to genetics why you end up with facial hair. If it runs in the family, you will just have to manage the grown on a daily basis!
