Don’t Wear White

Never wear white to a wedding. This is one of the most well-known wedding faux pas. We get it. It’s going to be spring. You want something light, floaty and comfortable that isn’t going to attract sunlight. Most of these kinds of dresses are going to be white. But there are plenty of other light shades available. Only the bride should be in white on her wedding day. Opt for something like pale lemon yellow, powder pink or baby blue instead if you want to keep things light and airy. You can usually get away with wearing something white that has a pattern on it, but be careful and don’t push things too far. You are usually best just steering clear of white dresses in general.

Day versus Evening

Day weddings shouldn’t call for something too flashy or elegant. Keep things pretty, semi-casual and comfortable. If you are solely invited to the reception, opt for evening wear. You’re going to be getting there a little later and chances are you’ll be celebrating through the night. If the wedding is taking place at an awkward time like 5pm or 6pm, you should opt for something that can easily transition between the realms of day wear and evening wear. Alternatively, you can take a change of clothing so that you can freshen up between the ceremony and the reception.

Deciding on a Hairstyle

You may not have paid much thought to the hairstyle that you will be sporting to the big event. Many will stick with their usual style, often leaving their hair down and straightened. But there are so many beautiful hairstyles out there that you might aswell try something different out on an occasion that calls for glamour and extravagance! Here’s how to do one of our favourites: the fishtail braid!

Fishtail Braid

Fishtail braids are an alternative and less common twist on the traditional braid. They can be standard braids or french or dutch braids. They’re a little more complex than the three-strand braid we’re used to, so are bound to make you look like you’ve put a little extra effort in. They are also commonly referred to as a “mermaid braid” so you can tell it’s something extra special. So, here’s how to do it! Pull your hair back into a ponytail. If you like, you can secure this ponytail with a thin hairband to make things a little easier for yourself. Divide your hair in half, creating two ponytail sections. These should be an equal size. Separate a half inch of this hair from the left-hand ponytail. Pull this piece over the left ponytail and allow it to join the right pony tail. Now, separate a half inch of the hair from the right ponytail. Pull this over the right ponytail and allow it to join the left. Repeat this process until you reach the bottom of your hair. It really is that simple! Now tie the end with a small hairband. You can snip the top hairband, allowing the fishtail braid to look more natural and loose.

Choose a Makeup Colour Palette

Once you’ve decided on your outfit, you will be able to choose a suitable makeup colour palette to tie in with your clothing. If you have pink tones in your clothing, why not opt for pink toned highlighter or an array of dusky pink eyeshadow shades. Naked palette number 3 is perfect for this, offering tones from the lightest pinks through rose golds, dusky shades and deep purples, which are perfect for blending. If you have a darker dress, consider golds. Gold tones can be blended with darker browns for an altogether more sultry look that isn’t as harsh as the traditional black smoky eye. Pink lipsticks will match almost anything and are much more subtle a shade than red for a perfect spring ceremony. You’ll match right in with the cherry blossoms!
