Blogmas Day 24: Christmas Eve Traditions

Screen Shot 2015-12-22 at 6.46.06 PM.png

Christmas Eve should be considered a holiday in and of itself. My family has always had some pretty awesome Christmas traditions, but they always start on Christmas Eve, not just the day of Christmas.

They’re simple little things really, but it’s these simple things that bring my family together and make my holidays bright. As my family owns their own business, Christmas Eve has always been one of the busiest days of the year. So the day would pass with wrapping presents and putting finishing touches on our Christmas table, but nothing really started until my parent’s got home from a long and busy day of hard work. Not only would we await their arrival, but also that of my Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles as we all came together for Christmas.

Christmas Eve dinner has always been just as important as Christmas dinner. It usually consists of something equally as amazing as the turkey such as Beef Bourguignon,  Spiral Glazed Ham, or Stuffed Chesnut Pork Roast with Sweet Apple Gravy. Those are some of my favourites from the past.

Then after dinner it’s time for us to sit down and relax, and finally embrace the holidays. We do this in the same way every single year. We watch National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. We laugh so hard we cry, and we recite the lines along with the movie. It never gets old. It may sound simple, but these truly are some of my favourite traditions and memories of growing up with my family. And I absolutely love Christmas Eve.

Happy Christmas Eve everyone!

Blogmas Day 21: My Favourite Holiday Cocktail

DSC_0216

Four days left! Are you done your shopping? Whether you are or aren’t, it’s probably about time you fixed yourself a nice holiday drink. A drink to get you through the rest of your shopping stress, to get through the colder nights, and to brighten your Christmas day with family and friends. But it’s no fun cheers-ing with a simple glass of wine or eggnog, let’s get creative and festive my friends. It’s time to put on my mixologist hat!

Okay, so it’s really not THAT fancy, and I totally got the recipe from somewhere like a book or online way back when. So sadly this cocktail is not of my own creation. It’s quite popular and can be found in many variations of Pinterest; which is great, but might knock my creativity and originality down a peg. So here’s my recipe.

It’s a Spiced Apple Cider Martini. It’s refreshing, yet slightly warming in it’s cinnamon goodness and alcohol medley.

4 oz Apple Cider

4 oz Vodka

2 oz Brandy

2 oz Triple Sec

1 oz fresh lemon juice

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp fine sugar

1 tsp brown sugar

Combine all ingredients (you can even blend in a blender for 5 seconds) then shake with ice in a martini shaker. I like to rim the top of my martini glass with a mix of sugar and cinnamon. Simply dip the rim in lemon juice then in the sugar mix. Pour the drink in two glasses and garnish with sliced apples or cinnamon sticks. And enjoy!

Or, try another Cider favourite of 3 cups of cider mixed with 2 cups of red wine in a pot. Add maple syrup or sugar for a bit of sweetness and add some apple slices or oranges, all simmered in a pot for 5 minutes. Mulled Cider. hmmmmmm!

What is your favourite holiday cocktail recipe?

Blogmas Day 19: My Christmas Wishlist

And finally, after seeing so many gifting guides over the past week, today I share with you the coveted items that I’m lusting over this Christmas. Probably leaving this a little late, as Christmas is only 6 days away, but better late than never right?

I found this list quite difficult to put together this year. When it comes to gifting holidays I’m all about the giving and always forget about the getting, so I don’t put too much thought into it during such a hectic and busy time of year. But I thought about it for a little while and put together this small list of wonderful items that I’d be delighted to receive this Christmas! Hopefully I’m on Santa’s Nice List.

The first is the Kat Von D Shade and Light Eye Palette. I’ve been swooning over this baby since it hit the shelves and each and every time I’m in Sephora I stop and stare, put it in my basket, then leave without it. I’m not quite sure why. Probably has something to do with the fact that I think I have way too many eyeshadow palettes, but then that’s not really a thing, right? This is a gorgeous palette of neutral and warm matte shades for the perfect smokey and contoured eyes. Just like the Kat Von D Shade and Light contour palette, it’s amazing formula’s and super long lasting. I love Kat Von D.

I’ve really been loving bits and pieces of my skin care routine lately, but I’m still lacking in something. Just not sure what it is yet. So I’d love to try some new and well known skin care brands and saviours and with holiday gift sets out this would be the best time to sample and try new brands. I’d love a set such as the Fresh Skincare Heroes, the Sunday Riley Power Couple Duo or the Caudalie Instant Radiance Set.

Next, is the Original Beauty BlenderI don’t have one .How is it that I don’t have one? No clue. But I’ve really gotten into sponge application of my liquid foundations recently and my cheap Ulta version just ain’t doing it for me.

I’ve really been into reading witty and insightful books by some pretty influential ladies recently (as you may have seen from my Book Lovers Gift Guide) They might not be Malala or Hilary Clinton, but they’re quite influential in their own fields and have some pretty awesome stuff to say. I’d love to read Drew Barrymore’s Wildflower, a book of Drew’s life and adventures since she was 14.

Since I’ve been upping my camera game lately I’ve been taking so many more pictures and having so much fun with it! I’m still on the lookout for a new camera lens as the auto focus on mine is busted, but I still have to do the research and shop around before I shell out a few hundred bucks for one. But in the meantime, I’d love to get a cool lens for my iPhone 6 Plus camera! The iPhone camera is amazing quality and sometimes I actually reach for my phone rather than my Nikon. This set can be found on Amazon for $12.99 and comes with a Fish Eye, Wide Angle and Micro lens attachments to clip on to your iPhone! That would be awesome!

What do you have on your list this year?
