Oils have been little bottles of moisturizing power in my arsenal for a few years now, but I never really thought much about them until the Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil made it into my cabinet about a year ago. Harsh winter winds and weather often need more than a moisturizer to save the sensitive skin of your face, but I always found oils to be…well, oily. I would go to bed thinking I’d slide right off my pillow or get a big’ol grease stain on the bed so I avoided most oils with a 10ft pole. Yet after trying this wonderful bottle of Argan Oil I realized the full benefits and moisturizing potential of facial oils.
Argan Oil was a long-kept cosmetic secret; a 100% pure and organic, chemical free oil originating from Morocco. The oil is extracted from a nut grown in hot arid climates and is full of vitamin E and fatty acids, which are combined to create amazing healing properties. The oil is great for your skin, hair, nails and is even a great natural remedy for nappy rash! The oil is amazing on the skin to protect from that harsh winter weather and give that extra boost of moisture needed. It slides on smooth and not too greasy, and sinks in fast. That’s the important part to me; no greasy oil-face after heading to bed. Smooth it on and it’s dry before you’re finished the rest of your bedtime rituals. It’s gentle enough for an everyday moisturizer, but also strong enough to help any rashes, eczema and other skin ailments as well. I’m so glad I added a few drops of this into my nightly routine to seal in my protective serums and moisturize my face for the Canadian winter. That’s all you need, just a few drops! This is why I love the Josie Maran Argan Oil.
Everyone has a nightly routine before bed. Sometimes its as simple as a splash of water and brushing your teeth, but for those who enjoy the finer things in life and a truly clean and well moisturized face it’s a whole lot more. So here’s my nightly routine (with a bath thrown in the middle about once a week).
First thing’s first, the best part of my day, putting my hair up. I then start my facial routine by removing my makeup with my Body Shop Chamomile Gentle Makeup Remover. I use just a little on two round cotton pads and place them over my eyes. I always try not to wipe too much since the skin around my eyes is so sensitive. Everyone should be really careful when rubbing near their eyes. I then do a thorough cleanse using my Body Shop Gentle Aloe Foaming Face Wash making sure to work it into my skin all the way from my hairline to my jaw line and everything in between, splashing it off with warm water. The face wash is the only aspect of my routine that I’m ever willing to change up a little, since I always find it quite hard to lock down a favourite in this category. I’m not too sure how much I love this Body Shop cleanser. The remainder of my routine is non-negotiable though! After I dry my face I use a little bit of my Clinique Clarifying Toning Lotion 2 on a cotton pad to get rid of any dirt or impurities left over on my face. Next, my Body Shop Aloe Protective Serum to pre-moisturize my face for added hydration. To moisturize my face I go between two different products depending on my hydration needs. On a regular day-to-day basis I’ve been using Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel for about 6 years now. But for days when I need added hydration, I’ve been using a few drops of the Josie Maran Argan Oil.
About once a week I treat myself to a bath, which I would insert into this step of the evening routine. These baths require 3 things: A good bubble bath/bath bomb, a good candle, and a deep moisturizing hair masque. I’ve tried quite a few bath bombs from Lush, but I find that I prefer a foaming liquid bubble bath. I love the Bath and Body Work’s Lavender and Chamomile Luxury Bath from their aromatherapy sleep line. Along with this amazingly relaxing scent, I love to pair it with my Bath and Body Work’s French Lavender Mason Jar Candle. And to top it off, I love to use that bath time for my L’Oreal Power Moisture Rush Mask. I just run a little through my hair and leave it in for the entirety of my bath, rinsing it out whenever I’m done and combing my hair really well!
After the face cleansing routine, and a bath, there is nothing left to do beside make a cup of Sleepy Time Tea and get into bed in comfy PJ’s and with a good book! Just a little bit of Blistex Daily Conditioning Cocoa Butter on my lips to ensure flake-free conditioned lips in the morning.
What do you do for your nightly routine? Do you have ‘the regulars’ or do you like to switch it up? I have a long list of new products to try as soon as others are all used up so I look forward to updating it soon!
Everyone knows that Sunday is the lazy day of the week. The day to sleep late, stay in PJ’s, and pamper yourself with bubble baths and face masks – dreading the early wake up for work the next day. This week I experienced a bit of change at work (good change…don’t worry) and its left me absolutely exhausted. And on top of that, Corey and I adopted a kitten on Saturday morning and the little tyrant thought it was better to pounce at our feet all night rather than let us sleep. So I was in need of some pampering and relaxation today.
– I started with a wonderfully bubbly bubble bath. I used Philosophy Field of Flowers, a bottle which I’ve had for awhile and recently had to remove from the clutches of my mother, reclaiming it as mine own. Philosophy: flowers brighten any day – says so right on the bottle. The scent is magnolia blossom and it can be used as shampoo, shower gel and/or bubble bath, which is the only way I’ve ever used it before. The smell is so relaxing!! And I look forward to a bath every time I know I have this in the cupboard.
– While in the bath I wore one of my favourite face masks – The Body Shop’s Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask. I know that I have stopped using a lot of the products in the Seaweed Line due to the fact that it strips my face of too much moisture/oils. The line is meant for people with oily/extremely oily skin, and mine is a combination although more on the dry side in the winter. Due to the fact that it dries out my face too much if I leave it on too long, I wash the mask off the moment it completely dries although in the summer I like to leave it on for much longer. I love the smell of it, and I love the way my face feels at the end.
– Finally…..to add all the moisture back into my face I used a few drops of Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil. I was always really skeptical to use oils on my face, thinking that they would make my ‘sometimes’ oily face into an ‘always’ oily face. Yet with just a few drops I get the perfect amount of moisture – especially over night. Then with a good face-wash the next morning I have a well moisturized face, no oils. Perfect. And it just feels so good!!
