Top 5 – September

FullSizeRenderThe time has come again for me to rant and rave about the 5 products that got me through the month. September was a bit of  whirlwind and flew past quicker than I cared for. But who can complain when the end of September means October is here! Birthday, Thanksgiving, scarfs, pumpkins! I love it all. But lets rewind to last month and take a look at what I’ve been loving.

The first is the Sleek Brow Kit which was specially delivered from Ireland by my wonderful sister. Looking quite similar to the ELF brow kit I didn’t really have high expectations, but this product is great quality, both the waxy filler as well as the brunette powder! My brows have been on fleek this month! I also decided to give the L’Oreal Blackbuster another go. When I first bought this product years ago I was sorely disappointed. It seemed to be all dried up and run out before I even got the chance to use it. But this time round I’m loving the product! Thick and thin lines with one simple swipe! Even cat-eye with the simplest of flicks. Loving it all.

Sticking in the amazing L’Oreal Infallible line I recently purchased and am OBSESSED with the Pro-Matte Foundation. The feel, the finish – I can’t explain my love of this foundation in a way for you to understand. You’d think I’d be used to these descriptions, but no….words have failed me. LOVE. Last but not least I picked three eyeshadows. Maybe quite similar, but all amazing shades and quality. They are the MAC Mystery, MAC Antiqued, and Stila Coco. I’ve been using these three non-stop and I will be bringing them all the way through October with me as well.

Bring on the cold weather, the Birthday celebrations, and the pumpkin pie!!! What have you loved this past month? What do you most look forward to with the coming of October?

L’Oreal Infallible Pro Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray

I’ve been talking about the sweaty-faced summer days lately. And what better way to embrace the heat than to fill your makeup stash with the products that’ll help prevent your face from melting? I recently discussed my tips for making your makeup last throughout the day here, but I’d like to spend a little more time talking about the L’Oreal Infaiible Pro Spray and Set Makeup Extender – a recently discovered important daily step for making your makeup last.

I’m not very well versed in the realm of setting sprays, keep that in mind. But I picked up this makeup setting spray from L’Oreal’s new Infallible line as soon as it came out. I knew this line was something to test and as L’Oreal is one of my favourite drug store brands I didn’t need much convincing. Yet it sat on my shelf for awhile before I mustered the courage to give it a go. I thought spraying a liquid on my face once I had spent the time to do my makeup would be counter-productive. Would it not just wash it all away? Tip – hold it a fair distance from your face. You want a mist, not a full blast (I learned the hard way). The spray doesn’t feel like anything extra on my face. It’s super light-weight and easy to use. I was afraid it’d make my face feel too dry, or the opposite, too greasy. But this fine mist delivers! I can attest to the extended wear of my makeup, even on these recently really hot days. My nose seems to be really oily lately and I’m finding my makeup slipping and sliding by the time I’ve arrived at work. But with a spritz or two of this setting spray before heading out for the day I’m finding I have nothing to worry about. I’m loving it!

Now that I may have been sold on setting sprays, which should I try next? What are your favourite setting sprays?

The Unavoidable Summer Sweat – How to Make Your Makeup Last

No matter what you may think, you sweat. Yes, you. The days are getting hotter and that thing you claim is a ‘glow’ is really sweat – ruining your best outfits and melting off your makeup. There is nothing worse than taking off your sunglasses to find a pooled foundation/sweat mix sitting on the bridge of your nose, or to catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and realize, yup those dark bags are back, your concealer is gone. The days are getting shiny my friends.

But, of course, I’m here to help! I’ve switched over to my Summer makeup menu to counteract those sweaty days and prevent the shine, and I’m here to share it with you. Just a few extra things to add to your current routine to make sure your makeup settles and sticks all day long. With long Toronto commuting days, and a 1.7km walk to and from Union Station every day, the hot, sweaty, makeup melting days are in full swing.

First step is PREP: It’s important to make sure your face is prepared for the hotter days. It’s important to make sure your face is clean and moisturized every single morning, as well as exfoliated a few days a week. Proper skincare is the first step to makeup; the step that most people skip. Makeup can hide a lot, but it’s always better to treat your skin with the proper care to ensure the your natural face is healthy and happy. I don’t start a day without a good wash and the Body Shop Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet moisturizer to prep my face.

Next, is PRIME: You need to make sure your makeup has something to stick to. A well primed face is a longer lasting face. It doesn’t matter which primer you use – whichever works best for you. Just ensure it’s a step you don’t skip on the sweaty summer days. I like to stick to oil-free formulas to ensure I don’t add extra shine to my face. I’ve been loving the Rimmel Lasting Finish Skin Perfecting PrimerIt claims to keep your makeup in place for up to 8 hours and it has yet to disappoint.

And finally, you need to SET: Set it all in place to make sure it stays. I like to set in to different ways. First I set with a mattifying powder to reduce any further shine (I’m all about the matte look if you haven’t already figured). For this I stick to the Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot Powderwhich I use under my eyes, forehead, nose and chin. And finally, I set my whole face with a good spritz of the L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Spray and Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray. Just make sure you hold it a ways away from your face while you spray, or else your makeup will drip off before even hitting the hot streets.

And there you have it. You’re reading to shop till you drop, spend a day at the parks, do the tourist scene, walk 1.7km to work without raccoon eyes upon arrival. Once you prep, prime, and set you’ll beat that ‘unavoidable’ summer sweat….Ahem I mean ‘glow’
