Top 5 – July

I’m not okay with July being over. I always find August to be such a bittersweet month of summer ending, yet beautiful weather. I’m not very accepting of September and I spend the whole month of August dreading it’s arrival. This August brings a lot with it. One of my best friends moving too far for me to handle, weddings up the wazoo, and a few cool things coming up on the blog within the next few weeks. These monthly posts are great for reflecting back on those things I loved for the month, but I’m starting to find they are acting as a pep talk for the month ahead.

So here we go, what 5 products did I love this past month? As I think back on my plans to save some money in the month I failed miserably, so there are a few new ones. I’d have to say that my top pick for the month would have to be the Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in the shade OrchidWe all know my love of these lipsticks and you can read my original review of them here, but this one is much brighter than those I’ve tried in the past and I LOVE the pop of colour for the summer, especially since I still seem to be wearing only black in a heatwave.

I have two eye products in my top 5 this month. These are two products that I have used almost every single day in July and I can’t get enough of. The first is the MAybelline Leather Effect 24H Color Tattoo in the shade Creamy Beige. Not only is this a great base for any look, it’s also perfect on its own. Sometimes I may add a tiny bit of brown to the outer corners to give a slight smokey look, but its so easy and long lasting. The second product is the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara which I raved about recently here. I’m in love. Simple as that. Maybelline has really been killing it in the eye dept. lately.

Number 4 and 5 are tricky ones since nothing else in particular stands out above the rest. I’ve been really enjoying quite a few things this month. But to pick something from that group I’d say Essie Millionails has been a real lifesaver lately and some good old-fashioned sun screen. With weddings coming up I’m trying to give my manicurist the best nails to work with. But after growing so long they get floppy and bendy and break so easily. So Essie’s kevlar filled Millionails came to my rescue. See a review here. And for summer sun protection its always the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen.

What have you been loving this month?

Top 5 – February

The past month saw countless days sitting at my desk with 5 days of vacation thrown in and a few hours at the gym each week. There was a wildly extreme lack of makeup and a newfound habit of nervously chewing my nails down to stubs as I search for a new career and hope to get on with my life. Yet although it was a pretty boring month, I definitely still have 5 products that made life a little brighter.

The first of these products is the Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave in Conditioner which I have grown to love and cherish. I finally got my hair cut at the beginning of the month and I’m so much happier with my hair. It may not be completely back to normal, but I know that normalcy will take some time after the horror of last year’s cut. This leave in conditioner has been helping me on a daily basis to keep the frizz to a minimum and help my hair curl the way its supposed to! Been awhile since I’ve seen that.

The next is The Body Shop’s Aloe Protective Serum which I’ve been using on a daily basis. I usually flip flop between this serum and The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Moisture Serum, but after breaking out in a small rash on my face earlier in the month, I stuck with the protective, sensitive skin, healing serum. My skin has been great since! I feel that I’m finally sticking to a good nightly routine and am getting everything I need for my face. Now if only I can figure out which product caused the rash…..

Next, for my Mexico adventures, I’d have to add the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen with SPF 60. I slathered this stuff on several times a day and for once prevented a burn. The sunscreen is nourishing enough to use as a daily moisturizer as well, and doesn’t feel slick or oily on the skin. Of course, since I was on vacation, I needed a favourite lip colour! Am I right? I think I packed more lip pencils than the number of days we were away! My favourite of the trip was the Revlon ColourBurst Matte Balm in the shade unapologetic. I live and breathe by these colour bust matte balms and this was a recent addition to my large collection. It’s a hot pink/coral shade that was perfect for a sunny, tanned skinned vacation.

And last but not least, it’s rare to have a month go by where one of The Body Shop’s Body Butters aren’t mentioned. This month I’ve been travelling and heading to the gym with the small travel sized Olive Body Butter, my favourite scent from the Body Shop!

So there you have it. What have you been loving over the past month?

What’s in My Beach Bag – Mexico Edition

IMG_2495-1 Hola from the sunny beaches of Cancun! In my memory I cannot remember a winter that has been as cold as the last two in Toronto. So cold that just a trip to the end of the driveway to grab the newspaper is enough to make your face hurt and require a good half hour thaw time. So my mom, sister and I decided it was time to ignore Canada for a week and mentally and physically thaw out. 6 days on the beaches of Cancun! I haven’t been to an all inclusive resort since I was really young, so the constant alcohol consumption sure is a bonus on this “forget everything and relax” vacation. And I’m not really used to being on a beach often. So I’ve compiled a little beach bag that’s been helping me along the way. In my beach bag I have:

1. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen SPF 60 – I’m pretty shiny white. I need all the help I can get. Too many bad burns in the past. This has helped for a nice tanned glow

2. Coppertone Oil Free Face Sunscreen Lotion – although my face isn’t too sensitive, I like the idea of using sunscreen formula specifically designed for your face. This one is SPF 60 as well.

3. Nivea Sun Lip Balm – SPF 35 have you ever burnt your lips? Holy moly does it hurt.

4. Kobo – I’ve been here three days and already on my second book. Finished the Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion and started the Clifton Chronicles by Jeffery Archer.

5. Beach Cover-Up – I’ve mentioned the bad burns in the past right? Always need something to cover yourself up with. I picked up a new PINK bathing suit and cover up just for this trip!

And that’s about it. Don’t lug around too much all day. With just a little Smashbox BB Cream with SPF 35 in the morning I’m good to go! Just sit on the beach and drink copious amounts of Mojitos and Mimosas! What do you guys like to pack in a beach bag?
