Top 5 – February

February was a pretty makeup-less month. The blah’s really caught up with me and I fully engaged in the Canadian winter hermit mode; you know, when it gets to the point that you just can’t handle the sun-less days and freezing temperatures. Yeah, that was my February. So as I sit down today to take a look at my Top 5 of February I draw a blank….give me a moment to go scrounge up a few things I actually used this month.

Blogmas Day 15: The Budget Gift Guide

Yesterday you saw the pricey stuff, so today I’ll share with you the best gifts with the best value for those shopping on a budget this Christmas! I love receiving gifts like this just as much as the luxe gifts, and they’re so much friendlier on your wallet during the holiday season!

The key to drugstore and budget shopping is knowing which brands have great holiday collections and gift sets, and where to get them! Whether it be Shopper’s Drug Mart, Rexall, Walmart, or online the realm of budget beauty gifts is endless!

Some of my favourite gift sets for the holiday season are brush sets. Being a true lover of Real Techniques brushes I think these make amazing gifts! Real Techniques can be found at Rexall locations in Canada, and for the holiday season keep your eye out for some limited edition sets such as the Deluxe Set for $30 or the well loved and always available Core Collection and Starter Set for $18 each. If you can’t find these set’s at your local Rexall then try online as well!

One brand that’s really killing it lately is NyxI’ve loved Nyx for a few years now but it’s relatively new to Canada. For this holiday season check out the new Nyx Butt Naked Eye and Cheek Palettes and gift sets available at Shopper’s Drug Mart for only $27. Or you can visit one of Nyx’s new flagship stores in Canada at either Queen St. West in Toronto or at Square One Mall! Powders, blushers, or the coveted lip creams galore!

For those nail polish addicts keep an eye out for Essie gift sets as well. I’ve seen quite a few different sets at various drug store locations, all at a reasonably low price. It generally works out to getting one of the polishes for free! And if you don’t see any sets that you like, then why not create your own? Places like Sally’s Beauty Supply and Trade Secret’s always have deals on polishes from last season!

And last but not least, take a look at the new products in the makeup aisle! There are some amazing new lippys and mascaras from both Maybelline and L’Oreal as well as so much more! Chuck a few of these in your basket and you’ll be the favourite gifter this holiday season! Beauty gifts don’t have to be expensive!

What are your favourite budget beauty gift sets out there this holiday season?

Top 5 – November

It certainly seems like it’s been awhile since I’ve done this. Another month has whizzed past us quicker than I care for. But I’ve missed a few Top 5s over the past few months and I have quite a few favourites to catch you up on. So buckle up and bare with me for a sec here while I sort out my thoughts.

Now, as I’ve already packed up the majority of my belongings, and I’m moving in two days, I really only have the essentials left to photograph and talk about for you at the end of this month. But that’s okay since the essentials are always the most used and therefore easily the top products used in a month. If you’ve followed my musings and writings for quite some time now, you’ll remember the days of minimal makeup and early mornings back when I was travelling and working in the food industry. Well, guess what? After 9 months of dabbling in a different field I’m back in the food service game and back to those days of minimal makeup and early mornings. It has it’s pros and cons.

My first favourite over the past few months has been the Tarte CC Undereye Corrector , which I’m shocked I haven’t talked about more. I’ve been absolutely in love with this product. It really is a miracle worker for those dark under eyes. Keeping it simple, I’ve been making use of the Maybelline Brow Drama to define and tame my brows on a daily bases. Next, the hair. Although nothing beats my Catwalk Curls Rock Amplifying Cream, I’ve been using and enjoying the Marc Anthony Curl Defining Lotion for softer waves for my work days and early mornings. With the changing weather my skin has had trouble with some pretty harsh dryness so the Lush Breath of Fresh Air has been great to prepare my skin for the harsh cold and wind. And finally, with a mix of dry skin and tattoo healing I’ve been attached to my Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotionseriously, it’s been a lifesaver.

What have you been loving lately?
