Top 5 – July

I’m not okay with July being over. I always find August to be such a bittersweet month of summer ending, yet beautiful weather. I’m not very accepting of September and I spend the whole month of August dreading it’s arrival. This August brings a lot with it. One of my best friends moving too far for me to handle, weddings up the wazoo, and a few cool things coming up on the blog within the next few weeks. These monthly posts are great for reflecting back on those things I loved for the month, but I’m starting to find they are acting as a pep talk for the month ahead.

So here we go, what 5 products did I love this past month? As I think back on my plans to save some money in the month I failed miserably, so there are a few new ones. I’d have to say that my top pick for the month would have to be the Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in the shade OrchidWe all know my love of these lipsticks and you can read my original review of them here, but this one is much brighter than those I’ve tried in the past and I LOVE the pop of colour for the summer, especially since I still seem to be wearing only black in a heatwave.

I have two eye products in my top 5 this month. These are two products that I have used almost every single day in July and I can’t get enough of. The first is the MAybelline Leather Effect 24H Color Tattoo in the shade Creamy Beige. Not only is this a great base for any look, it’s also perfect on its own. Sometimes I may add a tiny bit of brown to the outer corners to give a slight smokey look, but its so easy and long lasting. The second product is the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara which I raved about recently here. I’m in love. Simple as that. Maybelline has really been killing it in the eye dept. lately.

Number 4 and 5 are tricky ones since nothing else in particular stands out above the rest. I’ve been really enjoying quite a few things this month. But to pick something from that group I’d say Essie Millionails has been a real lifesaver lately and some good old-fashioned sun screen. With weddings coming up I’m trying to give my manicurist the best nails to work with. But after growing so long they get floppy and bendy and break so easily. So Essie’s kevlar filled Millionails came to my rescue. See a review here. And for summer sun protection its always the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen.

What have you been loving this month?

Lipstick and L’Attitude is 2!

Lipstick and L’Attitude is 2 years old! Happy Birthday!

What started out as my little space to muse about my love of beauty has turned into something much bigger then I ever expected. And seriously, I ain’t that big here. I must not have had very high hopes. But two years later, I’m very surprised (and a little impressed) that this blog has become something that I take pride in, something I work my hardest at, and something that I have stuck with.

There are ups and downs; days I struggle with the writing, the pictures, the content. There are even a few days where I want to give up. But I always bring myself back to the big picture: this is mine. My own. Something I write for myself and something that people don’t have expectations of me for. And if they do have expectations….I don’t care. I’m my own blogboss. (#blogboss).

I’m so excited to move forward with my blog – and am expecting year 3 to bring some exciting things. I’ll be bringing exciting new topics, some fresh new pictures, and a little something something from me and Revlon (been waiting 6 months for this!). Within the next month, once I get my sh*t together, I’ll be hosting my very first “Lipstick and L’Attitude’s Favourites Giveaway” to share my favourite and most talked about products with you!! Stay tuned, stay tuned, stay tuned.

And thank you, everyone, for always being here and supporting me in this little endeavor. 39450734432217051214

At Home Manicure

Screen Shot 2015-06-14 at 3.44.52 PMSundays mean pamper time – especially some much needed nail care. I don’t go get manicures very often, but every Sunday I like to trim, file, cut and paint my nails myself (I save the pricey mani-pedi’s for special occasions). No need for special, expensive files or this, that and whatever (see I get manicures so infrequently I don’t even know the proper terms) – just a few, well-priced products from the drug store, a little patience and a steady hand.

1. First I give my fingers and cuticles a good moisturizing massage. The skin around my nails often peel and get sore, so moisturizing is important. For this I use the Sally Hansen Cuticle Eraser + Balm. You simply massage a little bit into your cuticles to help keep them in check.

2. Then I cut away those ragged cuticles by using the simplest of tools. It’s the Revlon Cuticle Trimmer, which is a tiny little contoured clipper to trim your cuticles by following the natural curve of your nails. No need for a small set of scissors that will very likely cut your cuticles too short and leave your nails sore for the rest of the week.

3. If you’re happy with the shape and length of your nails, then move on the the base coat. I like to use the Essie Protein Base Coat. It helps strengthen and protect using wheat proteins for healthy nails – makes a smooth base and extends the wear of your polish.

4. The polish!! I change it drastically every week – switching from the dark, the bold, the neon, and the simple neutral colours. This week I chose a simple dusty rose pink – Essie’s Eternal Optimist.

5. Finish it all off with the only top coat out there that will actually dry your nails as fast as it claims to – it’s Seche Vite! Dries your nails in about a minute – and makes for a smooth, long-lasting finish on your manicure and colour.

Love my Sunday nail routine! Now that I can wear nail polish to work it’s become one of my favourite pamper sessions! With a few special occasions coming up this summer I am excited to splurge on a manicure or two, but my routine at home is just as good for the daily nail needs!
