Top 5 – March

Another slow month come and gone. Trying to keep myself busy with endless job applications, knitting projects, and oh yeah I’ve started cross stitch. Oh boy, do I need to get on with my life. So what has this ‘ol grandma been loving this month?

1. Rimmel Lasting Finish Skin Perfecting Primer – I picked this one up on a whim at the beginning of the month. I do love sales! And I would have to say that it’s been quite some time since I’ve been so impressed with a primer. Most primers I use have a thick, silicon-y feel to them, or leave my face feeling greasy. But this one is a thin moisturizing cream that blends in smooth, feels great on my skin, and allows my foundation to stay for up to 8 hours! I real win with this one.

2. Nails Inc. Vitmin E Oil Pen – My sister bought this for herself and didn’t see the use in it. With my ravaged nails still working their way towards normal I thought I’d give it a go. It’s super simple for on-the-go and travelling and is great for moisturizing and nourishing dry and damaged cuticles. It comes in a simple twist-up pen form and you just brush it on and massage it in.

3. Rimmel Exaggerate Full Colour Lip Liner – I’m not really one for lip-liners unless it’s a universal one. I’m never good at the whole colour matching thing, although I do see the benefits. I loved the colour of this lip liner while browsing a CVS across the border a few months ago and I picked it up, not really knowing how I was going to use it. I’ve started wearing it as all over colour by itself and I absolutely love it! It may feel very drying on the lips, but lip liners offer full coverage matte lips and are so easy as all over colour.

4. Tweezerman Special Edition Floral Sorbet Mini Slant Tweezers – It was time for a new pair of tweezers. Mine seemed a little dull, but it wasn’t until I picked up a new pair that i realized just how dull. These mini tweezers are not only adorable, but are sharp and precise. Tweezerman really is the best of the tweezers.

5. Essie Blanc – with the sun shining and the snow melting, the fashions and colours are turning to the soft pastels, including on the nails. While I’ve been enjoying my light lilacs and nude beige nails lately, I have also been loving pure white nails. Brings back fond memories of painting my nails with liquid paper in elementary school – yet this time not so thick and chunky. Just clean, bright, white nails.

So there you have it. What have you been loving lately?

Christmas in January No. 2

Screen Shot 2015-01-26 at 6.02.57 PM

Another busy December has come and gone which means it’s time to celebrate! I work for a large Canadian company that is bombarded with crazy schedules and assignments each and every Christmas-time (as you may have noticed from my recent travel schedule and hectic moods). So when our busy period winds down and everyone can breathe a sigh of relief, we celebrate. We have our Christmas party in January and I kinda like it that way. (see last year’s party here)

Our celebration took place this past weekend and I couldn’t have had a better time. It’s one of the only times Corey and I get to dress up and go all out! He wore his Calvin Klein suit and I put on a old dress that I’ve only ever been able to wear once before. A little black and white Taylor number from the Hudson Bay Company many moons ago (you don’t always need to splurge for something new, this one got me a lot of compliments!).

Of course my favourite part of the entire evening was getting ready. I’m currently working on editing a Get Ready With Me video and am still unsure as to whether I’m going to post it, but for now here is what I wore on my face for the evening! A co-worker of mine thought I had it professionally done!….I pat myself on the back. The pictures don’t quite do it justice:

Review – Rimmel Apocalips Matte Lip Velvet

IMG_2404

Both the old and the new from Rimmel have been impressing me lately. Having never really given it much of a chance before, the whole range of Rimmel products have slowly entered my makeup stash and have quickly become my most reached for everyday items. This includes the Rimmel Apocalips Matte Lip Velvet in the shade Atomic Rose.

Similar to the original Rimmel Apocalips, the formula of the new matte version is quite liquid and slides on smooth. I can’t say I’m a big fan of the way it feels on the lips, slightly oily and dry, but once it dries the formula feels like nothing is on your lips! The Atomic Rose shade is great for a nude/rosey every day colour but can run the risk of looking quite peach/orange if applied too thickly. Just a small amount is needed for quite a few hours of coverage! I’m very pleased with my choice of shades to try this lip lacquer out!

I’m excited to try a few more of the 5 different shades released by Rimmel but unfortunately they are currently only available in the States under the name of ‘Rimmel Show Off Lip Velvet Matte’. So until my next trip across the border (which should be any day now), I’ve got my daily dose with Atomic Rose.

Have you tried the new Rimmel Apocalips Matte? What did you think of the original Apocalips?
