My Summer ’15 Scent

Now that Summer has pretty much wrapped up I thought it was time to switch my most reached for daily scent from a summery spray to a sultry autumn one. Stay tuned for more info and reviews of my upcoming autumn scents, but for today let’s take a look at my summer fav: The Body Shop’s Atlas Mountain Rose Fragrance Mist.

If you’ve followed my musings and writings for quite some time now you may remember my first encounter of this fragrance when I smashed a bottle in the shop. Even though I wanted to duck and run, I thought it was only right to purchase it even when they graciously told me I didn’t have to pay for the damaged one. Not convinced it was my type of scent, I brought it home and it remained on one of my shelves for quite some time, maybe giving it a spritz or two once in a blue moon.

But at the beginning of this Summer I decided it was time for a light, fresh, feminine scent and this bottle delivered. Maybe my senses have changed over the last year and a half, but in any case I had decided that this was the Summer scent for me. Maybe I was worried that with a name like “mountain rose” it would be too floral, but this is such a subtle and smooth scent that is sweet and feminine; perfect for those sunny Summer days and what I’ve been using every day this Summer.

Now to bring on the more musky, sultry scents!! Hoping to add to my collection with a few new choices this Autumn, but I’m looking for some suggestions. What are your favourite fall scents and which do you think are going to be popular this year?

Top 5 – August

Once again, another month come and gone. But with the ending of this month there also comes the end of a season (more or less). With friends and family returning to school and my job continuing my ever precarious contract, it’s time to settle into the swing of things again and embrace the coming of Autumn. With this new embrace, I think it’s time to set myself some blogging goals for the last four months of the year. These include but are not limited to: being prepared and writing in advance, spending more time with my camera, and giving in to the nerves of putting my face in this space more often. Four months go by quick in blogging life so time to end 2015 on a great note.

So getting back to the main event here: Top 5 favourites of August. These may come as no surprise to you since I seem to resort back to the same favourites every few months. But this time it’s a specific combo that has really got me hooked. Specifically the duo of my ever-fav Revlon Photoready Cream Blush in the shade Pinched (which I apply with the Real Techniques Stippling Brush), paired with the Body Shop’s Honey Bronze Bronzer in the shade 03. This combo seems to create the most perfect mix of a bronze glow! The cream blush has the slightest shimmer to it that renders highlighter unnecessary. Seriously! I feel so bright and semi-strobed!

I also haven’t been able to put down my Sephora Contour Eye Pencil in the shade Stiletto this summer! I’ve been suggesting it to all my friends and have even chatting about it with other bloggers! This is a great pop of colour on the eyes that isn’t too dramatic and actually stays put! 12 hours of wear in this bad boy. Yet although my eye liner stays, my eyeshadow hasn’t been on these hot and humid days. So I’ve pulled out my ever trusty E.L.F Mineral Eyeshadow Primer a $3 dupe of all those other ones out there that is perfect for all day long eyeshadow wear!

And last but not least is something I’ve already reviewed here. It’s the Una Brennan Super Facialist Cleansing Oil, my new favourite face product. It’s an orange scented cleansing oil that leaves my face feeling super soft and moisturized after cleansing. My face has been loving it!

What have you been loving this past month and summer? Bring on the Autumn and my favourite warm colours and scarves! I can’t wait!

The Unavoidable Summer Sweat – How to Make Your Makeup Last

No matter what you may think, you sweat. Yes, you. The days are getting hotter and that thing you claim is a ‘glow’ is really sweat – ruining your best outfits and melting off your makeup. There is nothing worse than taking off your sunglasses to find a pooled foundation/sweat mix sitting on the bridge of your nose, or to catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and realize, yup those dark bags are back, your concealer is gone. The days are getting shiny my friends.

But, of course, I’m here to help! I’ve switched over to my Summer makeup menu to counteract those sweaty days and prevent the shine, and I’m here to share it with you. Just a few extra things to add to your current routine to make sure your makeup settles and sticks all day long. With long Toronto commuting days, and a 1.7km walk to and from Union Station every day, the hot, sweaty, makeup melting days are in full swing.

First step is PREP: It’s important to make sure your face is prepared for the hotter days. It’s important to make sure your face is clean and moisturized every single morning, as well as exfoliated a few days a week. Proper skincare is the first step to makeup; the step that most people skip. Makeup can hide a lot, but it’s always better to treat your skin with the proper care to ensure the your natural face is healthy and happy. I don’t start a day without a good wash and the Body Shop Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet moisturizer to prep my face.

Next, is PRIME: You need to make sure your makeup has something to stick to. A well primed face is a longer lasting face. It doesn’t matter which primer you use – whichever works best for you. Just ensure it’s a step you don’t skip on the sweaty summer days. I like to stick to oil-free formulas to ensure I don’t add extra shine to my face. I’ve been loving the Rimmel Lasting Finish Skin Perfecting PrimerIt claims to keep your makeup in place for up to 8 hours and it has yet to disappoint.

And finally, you need to SET: Set it all in place to make sure it stays. I like to set in to different ways. First I set with a mattifying powder to reduce any further shine (I’m all about the matte look if you haven’t already figured). For this I stick to the Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot Powderwhich I use under my eyes, forehead, nose and chin. And finally, I set my whole face with a good spritz of the L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Spray and Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray. Just make sure you hold it a ways away from your face while you spray, or else your makeup will drip off before even hitting the hot streets.

And there you have it. You’re reading to shop till you drop, spend a day at the parks, do the tourist scene, walk 1.7km to work without raccoon eyes upon arrival. Once you prep, prime, and set you’ll beat that ‘unavoidable’ summer sweat….Ahem I mean ‘glow’
